CCN 50 NHS England — Personalisation of Recall Intervals

The latest version of R4+ implements changes specified in CCN 50 for NHS England.  The changes will be implemented on October 1, 2022.

Nice Guidance Recall Interval

NICE Recall Interval will become mandatory on all adult English banded claims (Bands 1, 2 and 3) if the Date of Acceptance is on or after October 1, 2022, this will remain optional on claims for patients aged under 18 or on non-English claims. Where NICE Guideline Recalls are used requiring Oral Health Reviews then this continues to be automatically set however if other Recall Styles are in use then you will be required to specify this in each claim before submission.

Highest BPE Sextant Score

NHS England now requires that a BPE be recorded adult banded claims, but will only require the highest sextant score in the mouth be transmitted, if a BPE is captured on course acceptance as part of a clinical examination it will be automatically set, if no suitable BPE is recorded then Not Possible will be specified, users can override and change this on the Claim before submission where necessary.

Untreated Decayed Teeth

A new Capture field has been added to the Claims Clinical Tab to record the total number of Untreated Decayed Teeth for the Patient. This is the number of teeth which are decayed into dentine (excluding arrested decay), this includes teeth which have recurrent decay around fillings. We will deduce a count based the charted conditions and treatments present on the Patient, users will be able to adjust this in the claim the same as the DMF values if necessary before submission.

New Endodontic CDS Captures

Two New endodontic CDS captures have been introduced in claims from October 1st:

These have already been implemented for NHS Wales and will replace the single endodontic code previously in use for NHS England.

It will only be accepted on claims that have a Date of Assessment on or after October 1, 2022, and is only expected to be used with patients who are fully exempt from dental charges.
