The following is a list of enhancements included and issues addressed in R4+ Version 8.1.0. All fixes are cumulative (each new release contains all new fixes as well as all fixes from the previous release).

CS R4+ v8.1 introduces features to support April 2020 NHS Wales regulatory changes. Updates include:

Updated NICE User Declaration on claim form
R4+ v8.1 introduces the ability to enter SNOMED Codes against Treatment Codes on a per-scheme basis through the Clinical Administration tool. SNOMED Codes are optional and will be recorded in the patient record when the associated Treatment Code.
SNOMED Codes assignments will be retained through future code updates, this feature is available for users in England, Isle of Man, and Wales only.
R4+ v8.1 includes a “Was Not Brought” Cancellation reason. “Was Not Brought” is an alternative to “Did Not Attend” for patients that do not have the ability to transport themselves to the appointment. It can potentially be used to spot a pattern if the appointments of children or vulnerable adults repeatedly miss or cancel appointments.
The descriptions for the British Dental Association (BDA) Case Mix Model have been updated to match the 2019 BDA revisions. The 2019 Case Mix Model introduces regional models; it includes updates that apply to the UK as a whole as well as some Scotland-specific updates.
R4+ v8.1 allows users to view the complete history of an appointment. The user can see when the appointment was created, when it was moved, cancelled, or postponed, and what changed about the appointment (different treatment, different provider, etc.).
Appointment moves are tracked whether they are cut-and-pasted or moved through the Parking Lot. An Appointment Audit Report is available for a printed version of appointment changes. A yellow warning icon indicates an appointment has been moved since its initial booking; the warning is removed if the appointment is subsequently Cancelled.
In order to better serve our customers, R4+ v8.1 includes a tool to provide technical information about how R4+ is implemented at your site. This will allow the Carestream Dental support team to more quickly diagnose problems with your R4+ system. Information about your hardware, operating systems, R4+ version, database size, and so on, is collected and stored in a central database where it can be reviewed by support and development staff.
No personally identifiable information is collected, and participation is optional. Users can enable Central Site Data Collection for the practice at the first login after R4+ v8.1 is installed; Participants can opt-in or out at any time through R4 Main Settings > System 1 > Site Data Collection.
To support our customers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), R4+ v8.1 adds the ability to record, store, and search by the patient’s 15-digit UAE Identification number. Entering the UAE ID is not required and will only appear as an option for customers in the UAE. If present, the UAE ID will appear on the Patient Banner on the Patient Record, Diary, and Chart windows. To see UAE ID in Patient Record Search results, you must enable UAE ID in Table Properties.
32-bit versions of locally installed “Click to Run” versions of Microsoft Office 365 (tested with version 1902) have been tested and verified to work with R4+ v8.1. The 64-bit version of any version of Microsoft Office are not compatible with R4+.
Microsoft support for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 ended January 14, 2020. Existing R4+ installations that currently have suitable SQL Express 2008 R2 installs will be prompted for upgraded to SQL Express 2014. This change will not affect the operation of R4+.
R4+ sites that have upgraded to a more robust version of SQL Server or are self-managed will not receive this update; they must upgrade their SQL Server manually as needed.
The following is a list of issues addressed in R4+ v8.1.0.
A defect which resulted in a ‘Inappropriate Treatment Code' rejection responses if the patient was under 18 upon assessment, but subsequently reached 18 on acceptance and submission of a claim, this has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
A defect which could cause malformed encoded claims when transmitted if the orthodontist set the post PAR score to 0 has been fixed. A related defect which restored a deleted post PAR score to its previous value has also been fixed.
In certain upgrade situations some mapping data would be missing resulting in the AMS code not being included in certain situations for patient claims where applicable, R4+ v8.1 inserts this missing data so claim submissions will now be correct.
A defect which prevented submission of registration only Claims introduced in R4+ v8.0 has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
A defect which sometimes caused the Prior Approval tab to disappear if an eDental Final Payment claim was marked as FTR has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
A defect which sometimes caused R4+ to incorrectly produce an error which indicated today’s date was a future date has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
R4+ had previously incorrectly allowed Carious as a valid annotation for baseline charting for eDental or eDental PA; this has been corrected in R4+ v8.1. Carious is still available for eOrtho (where it is a valid annotation).
R4+ v8.1 address three Displacement Details (Assessment - Part 5) issues:
The check boxes on Displacement Right, Left & Front have been replaced with text fields which allow values 0 – 99 improving usability and accuracy
Displacement Offsets has been redesigned to be easier to use and more accurate
User interface (UI) has been enhanced to more accurately match Form FP170 (form and schema)
R4+ would sometimes mishandle the claimant indicated in an eOrtho course of treatment claim. If affected claims were readied for transmission using Send Later then when the Dentist user submitted their batch of claims it would also submit the affected Orthodontist claims, this has been corrected in R4+ v8.1.
A defect which permitted a user to request interim payments without having any items in Completed state which would be rejected, but would stop the user from producing a valid interim payment later in the course of treatment has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
R4+ v8.1 now allows any positive or negative values to be entered for Maximum Contact Point Displacement and Cephalometric analysis fields .
IOTN Dental Health Component Full Type option “I” was incorrectly listed as “J”; this has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
R4+ v8.1 corrects a typographical error: "Primary Tongue Thrush" has been corrected to "Primary Tongue Thrust".
R4+ v8.1 has changed the way Overjet Size is entered; instead of selecting from a list, the user can enter a value between 0.00 and 11.99.
R4+ v8.1 fixes a spelling error of ‘Incomplete’ in the list of Overbite Size options.
A defect which incorrectly required an entry for Centre Line has been fixed in R4+ v8.1; Centre Line is now optional.
A defect where in some situations R4+ sometimes would double the adjusted discretionary fees returned by the Board when accepted by the user has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
A defect in keeping track of the Patient Charge Statutory Limit for eDental and eOrtho Continuation Courses that can result in patient overcharges and claim rejections (E000649) this has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
A defect in which previously rejected re-approval requests were permanently marked as requiring re-approval has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
A defect which caused a previous response description on the View Replies window has been fixed in R4+ v8.1.
In R4+ v8.1 we have now separated the checks that flag where a Prior Approval is required on treatment, the benefit of this is now Discretionary codes & Discretionary Codes with predetermined fees that do not require a Prior Approval will no longer trigger one which slowed down courses of treatment unnecessarily.
The OPT Analysis (0200) Code Pricing has been fixed.
NHS Scotland R4+ users were not able to select treatment codes 2101 or 2102 for retained deciduous teeth; CS R4+ v8.1 corrects this problem.
Patients who are exempt from examination charges were not being prompted to provide their signature where eSignatures is in use for their NHS Patient Registration Form. R4+ v8.1 now correctly requests the exemption signature.
A defect which broke the ability to retain and re-use contact information recorded for a Patients Printed or eSignature-based PR Form in the proceeding payment claim has been fixed.
A defect which caused Prior Approval Observations in Northern Ireland to be saved in the wrong internal field has been fixed.
A defect which caused incorrect opening times in Monthly Overview when near nearing a transition cycle has been fixed, this means pending patient appointments will no-longer appear out of hours in these periods.
A defect which caused the Treatment Prescribing Trends report to sometimes display incorrect results has been fixed. The report had previously incorrectly used current time as a report parameter instead of the end-of-day (23:59:59).
Two defects which produced Error Message (3021) when a patient responds to an SMS message that refers to a missing or invalid Appointment in R4+ has been fixed.
