With the release of version 14.0 of the OrthoTrac software, the fingerprint scanner is no longer supported.
At the patient check-in computer, the patient will see the check-in display your office currently uses; therefore, you must modify the check-in instructions on the Patient Flow Maintenance window to inform patients that they can check in using the fingerprint scanner.
To change the check-in instructions, click Maintenance/Set-up > Patient Flow Options, select the appropriate instructions, and type the new information.
If you are using the welcome screen feature, click Maintenance/Set-up > Patient Flow Options > Welcome Screen. Click Instructions and type the new information.
To use the fingerprint scanner with patient flow check-in, the patient flow check-in machine must be configured in patient-flow-only mode.
A staff member will need to guide the patient when obtaining the initial fingerprint scan. Once the fingerprint is on file, the patient can check in without assistance. See Scanning a Fingerprint for more information.
Depending on how the patient scans his fingerprint, several messagesmessages can display:
When a patient with an appointment places his finger on the scanner, the fingerprint is automatically scanned, and a message is displayed, thanking the patient and asking him to be seated.
If the patient does not have an appointment, a message is displayed, stating that there are no appointments scheduled for the patient matching the scanned print and to see the receptionist.
If there is a bad scan of the fingerprint or no match for the fingerprint, a message is displayed, stating that the fingerprint scanned was either not recognized or there was no match found. The patient is told to try again or to check in manually.
