Managing Patient Accounts > Accessing the Clipboard
Use the Attachments window to attach, find, access, and manage different types of files associated with a patient's record. This window has filters that enable you to sort by date range, description, file type, category, class, reviewer, and review status.
To access the Attachments window, click Attachments on the patient's clipboard.
See the sections below to learn more about categories, review status, and viewing attachments in patient history and progress notes.
To add an attachment to the patient's record:
From the patient's clipboard, click Attachments. The Attachments window is displayed with a list of files attached to the patient's record.
Click Add. The Attachment Definition window is displayed with the patient's name and Reviewer name, based on the current login.
Under Attachment file path:, click the ellipsis button and navigate to and select the file to attach.
Click Open. The file path is entered in the window.
Enter a description of the attachment.
Use the list to select an Attachment Category. The Class is displayed based on the selected category: Financial, Clinical, or Demographic.
Set the Review Status to Needs Review, Reviewed, or Not Required.
You can also add an attachment from the Attachment List window, by selecting Lists > Patient Attachments, and clicking Add.
PracticeWorks uses the following categories to help you sort and manage your attachments:
Consent
Identification
Insurance
Lab
Medical history
Referral
For more information on categories, see Attachment Categories.
You can flag an attachment to require a review of the item. Clinical categories default to Needs Review, but you can change this status as needed, or once the attachment has been reviewed. Attachments needing review are added to the Office Expert, and you can configure Practice Central to display this list as well.
Adding or editing an attachment, changing a review status, or removing an attachment category are security events that require appropriate security level access. These events also create Audit Log entries.
If you want attachments to appear in the Patient History window, and on the Prog Notes tab of the Charting module:
From the patient's Clipboard, select History. The Patient History window is displayed.
Click Setup. The Progress Notes Setup window is displayed.
Select Show documents/attachments.
Click Save.
