Naming the Template and Creating Treatment Steps

To create treatment steps:

  1. Select Functions > Maintenance/Set-up > Treatment Plan Maintenance from the menu bar.

  2. The Treatment Plan Maintenance window is initially blank. If you have already created treatment plan templates, the templates are displayed in the window.

  1. In the Treatment Plan Maintenance window, click Add New Plan. The Plan Name field is selected.

  2. If you have already created treatment plan templates, the system displays a prompt, asking if you want to add a new template or copy an existing template.

  1. In the Plan Name field, type a name for the treatment plan template and click Add. The Select Steps window is displayed. If you have previously created a treatment plan template, select from the steps in this window. If there are no existing steps, or if you have to create additional steps, click Add. The Add Step window is displayed.

Each step can include the following informationfollowing information.

  1. In the top section, complete the available fieldsavailable fields.

    • Step — Type the name for this step. Press Tab.

    • Category — Use the drop-down list and select <Click Here to Add Category>. The Add Category window is displayed. Enter a description (for example, Treatment, Starts, Diagnosis, Retention, Appliance, and so on) for the category you want to add and click OK.

    • In the Complete this step and after previous step fields, click the arrows in the fields to select the number and time interval after the previous step that this step should be completed.

    • In the Days field, select the number of days
      (+/-) from the last appointment within which this step can be performed.

    • If the Complete this step, after previous step, and Days fields are left blank for any steps other than the first step, the treatment time cannot be calculated.

  2. In the Appointment section, complete the available fieldsavailable fields.

    • Click by Appointment Type to set up treatment plan steps by appointment type, or select by Procedure Code to set up treatment plan steps by procedure code.

      If you select by Procedure Code, the fields in the Appointment section are populated automatically. Continue with Step 6.

    • To set up treatment plan steps using procedure codes, ensure that all procedures have an associated appointment type using the Procedure Code Maintenance window, and select the Procedure search method in the Schedule Maintenance window.

    • Click in the Type field. The Appointment Types window is displayed.

    • Select the appointment type for this step and click OK.

    • In the Comment field, type a comment. For example, Schedule Start Appt.

  3. In the Procedures section, select <Click Here to Add Procedures>. The Procedures window is displayed.

  4. Select the procedures to be added to or removed from this step and click OK.

  5. In the Notes section, type treatment notes for this step. When typing notes, if you type a forward slash (/), a comment code, and press the spacebar, the software populates the field with the entire comment. (ExampleExampleIf you type /T11 and press the spacebar in the Notes section, the software enters "Fixed appliance therapy" in the field.) You can type /?_ (forward slash, question mark, space) to display a list of predefined comments. Select a comment and click OK to place the comment in the field.

  1. Press Tab.

  2. In the Futures section, select <Click Here to Add Futures>. The Add Future Message window is displayed.

  3. Type the message, select the acknowledgement, and click OK.

  4. In the Letters section, select <Click Here to Add Letters>. The Select Letters window is displayed.

  5. Select the letters you want to post for this step, if appropriate, and click OK.

  6. In the Questionnaire field, use the drop-down list to select a questionnaire for this step, if appropriate.

  7. In the Patient Description field, type the patient description for the step. Information entered here is printed on the Patient Copy of the Treatment Plan report and can be printed in different languages, if you have entered translations for the patient description. (ExampleExampleIf a patient’s language is set to Spanish, and you have entered Spanish translations for the patient descriptions, the patient’s treatment plan report prints with Spanish patient descriptions.)

To enter the patient description in a language different from the default language, follow these stepsthese steps.

  1. Click OK. The Select Steps window is displayed.

  2. Click Add. The Add Step window is displayed. Repeat the above steps for each of the steps included in the treatment plan template.
