Creating a Patient Anesthesia Record

Create a separate record for each instance of a procedure that uses anesthesia. The default fields on each tab are defined or enabled in the Customize Anesthesia Records window.

To create an anesthesia record for a patient:

  1. In the Patient window, select EMR > Anesthesia. The Anesthesia tab is displayed, listing any existing records.

  2. Click . The Create Anesthesia Record window is displayed with the General Info tab open. Information found in the patient’s record automatically populates the corresponding fields.

  1. In the Height (Inches) and Weight (LBS) fields, type the information. The metric equivalents are calculated automatically when you move to the next field.

  2. Beginning in version 9.0, the patient's body mass index (BMI) is calculated based on height and weight entries. The index number and category are displayed.

  1. Select an Escort option.

  2. Select NPO, if applicable, and enter the associated number of hours.

  3. Select Wears Contacts if applicable.

  4. Select the Consent Signed checkbox after verifying that the patient did sign the appropriate forms.

  5. In the ASA section, select the patient’s classification.

  6. Use the drop-down lists to identify the surgeon and assistants for this procedure.

  7. When this tab is complete, click Pre-Op Evaluation.
