Getting Started > Understanding the Charting Module
The Main toolbar at the top of the window is constant. It remains the same regardless of which tab you have selected, although not all buttons are operational on all tabs.

The Main toolbar contains the following buttons. Click a button to see the name and a description.
Close—Closes the charting module
and returns to the SoftDent software. If you want to close SoftDent too,
select File > Exit.
Save All—Saves any changes that
have been made to an open chart.
Print—Prints a patient’s chart,
treatment plan information, exam information, and clinical notes with
the chart. To set up the printer, select File
> Print Setup. Select the options and click OK.
Full Mouth/Quad—Displays detailed
views of the four quadrants of the mouth.
Maximize Chart View—Enlarges the
chart, hiding the Clinical Detail Tab
Container, with the Clinical History
and the Clinical Images
tabs.
Chart with Clinical History—Displays
the Clinical History tab below
the chart. Use this button when you have hidden the chart, but want to
display it again.
Chart with Clinical Images—Displays
the Clinical Images tab below
the chart. Use this button when you have hidden the chart, but want to
display it again.
Maximize the Clinical Ledger View—Maximizes
the Clinical History tab and hides
the chart. This is used to see the patient’s entire clinical history.
To revert to the view with the chart, click Chart
with Clinical History.
Maximize the Image Thumbnail View—Maximizes
the Clinical Images tab and hides
the chart. To revert to the view with the chart, click the Chart
with Clinical Images button.
Provider List—Displays the Provider List window. Select the
provider who is entering clinical notes and treatment planning and conditions.
Add a Descriptive Note—Opens the
Patient Clinical
Notes List window. You can enter or amend clinical notes for a
patient.
The following buttons open imaging applications. Click a button to see the name and a description.
Start Carestream Dental Imaging Software—Opens
the dental imaging software. This button is disabled if you do not have
the software.
Capture a panoramic image using Carestream
Dental Imaging Software—Captures a panoramic image. This button
is disabled if you do not have the 8000, or later, panoramic unit installed.
Capture a 3D image using Carestream
Dental Imaging Software—Captures a 3D image. This button is disabled
if you do not use dental imaging software and the 3D module is not installed.
Capture a cephalometric image using
the Carestream Dental Imaging Software—Accesses the software to
capture a cephalometric image. This button is disabled if you do not use
dental imaging software and the CS 9000C panoramic and cephalometric unit
is not installed.
Capture an RVG image using Carestream
Dental Imaging Software—Captures an RVG image. This button is disabled
if you do not have a digital radiography system installed.
Capture an intraoral image using
Carestream Dental Imaging Software—Captures an intraoral image.
This button is disabled if you do not have a digital camera or an intraoral
camera installed.
Acquire new CR image—Captures a
CR image. This button is disabled if you do not use dental imaging software
and do not have the Carestream Dental CR installed.
Capture
a new Intraoral Scanner digital impression—Captures an intraoral
image. This button is disabled if you do not use dental imaging software
and do not have the CS 3600, CS 3700, or CS 3800 installed.
Scan a 3D Object Using Carestream
Dental Imaging Software—Scans a 3D object. This button is disabled
if you do not use dental imaging software.
Start Medvisor Software—Opens the
Medvisor software in a patient’s chart. This button is disabled if you
do not use Medvisor.
