Preparing the Patient

To prepare and position a patient:

  1. Ask the patient to remove all metal objects.

  2. Ask the patient to wear a lead apron. Be sure the apron is flat across the patient’s shoulders.

  3. Turn the adjustment knob to open the temple supports laterally.

  1. Have the patient enter the unit. On the control panel, press and hold the height adjustment buttons to raise or lower the chin rest to the appropriate height.

Note:  If the patient is tall, ask him to sit on a stool and then adjust the chin rest.

  1. Have the patient:

  1. Have the patient place his chin on the chin rest support (A).

  1. Have the patient bite into the groove of the bite block (B). Use your hands and the vertical positioning indicators to align the head to the Sagittal plane.

Important:  The patient’s spinal column and nose must be aligned in a straight, vertical line.

  1. Turn the adjustment knob (D) and use the horizontal positioning indicators as a visual aid to adjust the up or down inclination of the patient's head. The Frankfort plane is used for all 2D programs except bitewings. For extraoral bitewings, use a Camper plane horizontal alignment (D1).

Note:  Correct posture reduces the shadow of the spinal column transferred to the image.
