Entering an Address Command on the Palm Organizer

Address commands enable you to transfer information from the Palm organizer to the PC SoftDent software in the form of reminder memos, patient or referring doctor record updates, and prescription refill records.

To transfer information to the PC SoftDent software using the Address commands:

1. On the Palm Home screen, tap the SoftDent icon, and then tap Recent Rx, Call Backs, Referring Doctors, or Patients on the SoftDent-Palm application menu. The Address Book is displayed.

2. In the Address List on the Palm organizer, tap the entry you want so that a cursor displays on the desired line.

3. Tap Edit at the bottom of the screen to enter the Address Edit mode.

4. Tap the Last Name field to place the cursor there.

5. Tap the 123 dot in the graffiti writing area underneath the screen. A Number Keyboard is displayed. The cursor is at the beginning of the Last Name field.

6. Begin by entering the \ character (unless you have  selected something else as your command character in the Command Tag field in the PracticeToGo User Preferences window in the PC SoftDent software).

7. Next, tap ABC at the bottom of the Keyboard window to open the Letter Keyboard. Enter the rest of the SD Address Command in the Last Name field. Example:Example:Enter \SDU to update a contact record.

• The command is case sensitive, so it must be entered in all capital letters. The command must also be entered without spacing between the characters.

• For online tips about ways to reach the onscreen Keyboard, tap the tips icon (the lowercase i) in the upper-right corner of the Keyboard window.

8. When you are finished, tap Done to exit the keyboard window and return to Address Edit mode.

9. To update a contact record (\SDU), you must also enter the new address or telephone information in the contact’s entry.

10. Enter telephone information on the Palm organizer like this: (111) 555-1212 x321. Be aware that you must place the area code within the parentheses, the main phone number must include a dash, and the extension number must come after the x in order for the PC SoftDent software to read the information correctly.

10. Tap Note at the bottom of the screen if you want to view the notes for the entry.

To edit the note or place additional information in it, tap the ABC or 123 dot in the graffiti writing area at the bottom of the screen to open either the Letter or Number keyboard, as needed. Place the cursor at the beginning of the text field and enter the desired information. To ensure that the note will not get cut off in the PC SoftDent software, limit the text to two lines. When you are finished, tap Done to exit the keyboard and return to the note field. Tap Done to exit the note field and return to Address Edit mode. Tap Done to return to Address List mode.

11. At the next synchronization, information about the entries you marked with SoftDent commands will be transferred to the PC SoftDent software in the form of memos, referring doctor or patient record updates, and prescription refill records. Memos added to the PC SoftDent software from the Palm organizer display in the Memos list window in blue. Once the information is transferred to the PC SoftDent software, the SD command you entered on the Palm organizer is removed.
