Integrating PracticeToGo with the Palm OS Platform

Before you can integrate PracticeToGo with the Palm OS platform, you must integrate the Palm organizer with SoftDent by installing the SoftDent-Palm application on the Palm organizer. Once the SoftDent-Palm application is installed on the Palm organizer, you can transfer SoftDent data to the Palm organizer. You only need to do this once.

To integrate PracticeToGo with the Palm OS platform:

  1. After you have installed the PC SoftDent and Palm Desktop software and connected the HotSync cradle, PC SoftDent will detect the Palm Desktop software on your computer the next time you open SoftDent. A message is displayed, asking if you want PracticeToGo to integrate itself with the Palm OS platform. Click Yes.

  2. The SoftDent-Palm application is placed in the Install directory of your Palm Desktop software, and the SoftDent conduit is registered with the HotSync Manager. A message is displayed, verifying that the SoftDent conduit was registered successfully. Click OK.

At this point, the Palm OS platform is enabled as the PracticeToGo platform. (To verify this setting, click System > PracticeToGo > PracticeToGo Platform. The Use the Palm OS Platform option is selected, signifying that it is your integration choice for PracticeToGo.)

  1. Insert the Palm organizer into the HotSync cradle and push the HotSync button on the cradle. The SoftDent-Palm Application (SoftDent.prc) is installed on the Palm organizer.

  2. No SoftDent data has been transferred to the Palm organizer at this point.

  1. When the first synchronization is complete, press the HotSync button again. A message is displayed, stating "Opening SoftDent, please wait.” The HotSync Manager checks the list of registered conduits and activates the SoftDent conduit, and PracticeToGo transfers SoftDent data to the Palm organizer.

  2. You do not have to perform the first three steps each time you synchronize PracticeToGo with the Palm OS platform. Steps 1-3 are for initial integration of PracticeToGo to the Palm OS platform.

The PC SoftDent login window is displayed.

  1. Enter your SoftDent user name and password.

If your user name in the PC SoftDent program has security rights to transfer data to the Palm organizer, data is transferred according to the preferences you have set in the PC SoftDent program (System > PracticeToGo > User Preferences).
