Charting the Patient > Treatment Planning
Although you can create a treatment plan from the Clipboard, the charting module is the most popular place to create a treatment plan.
To create a treatment plan:
From the patient’s chart, click the Tx Plan tab. The Select treatment plan to view/display in chart window is displayed.
Click Create new plan. A blank Tx Plan window is displayed.
Click the Hard Tissue tab. For more information on how to use this tab, see Introducing the PracticeWorks Charting Module.
In the bottom portion of the chart, click Chart proposed.
While in this mode, entries made to the Hard Tissue chart appear in red, and are automatically added to the treatment plan.
Select teeth and use the chart buttons to chart proposed procedures to the patient’s hard tissues.
When you have finished, click the Tx Plan tab. The charted procedures are displayed in the list, along with the associated fees.
In the Visit # column, the number 99 is entered by default. Highlight each procedure, and click the Sequence Visits button at the top right. Click a Visit button to assign an office visit number to the procedure. Sequence each procedure until you have the logical number of visits for the completion of this plan.
To change the Producer for one or more procedures in the plan, click on the initials by the procedure in the Prod column until the desired Producer’s initials are displayed.
The Status column displays one of the following:
The status of the plan appears in parentheses in the title bar. Look at the status when working with a treatment plan, since it changes as you make adjustments to individual procedures or the whole plan, such as printing a proposal, requesting a Pre-D, and so forth. Hard Tissue chart entries generate details that appear in this column.
When you have finished, close the window. You are prompted to either save the changes to the patient’s chart by clicking OK, or to click Cancel and return to the chart.
You are also prompted as to whether the patient is accepting the treatment plan at this time. Click Yes or No. If you click No, the treatment plan is still saved, and can be accepted another time.
If you have charted proposed entries, but have not created a treatment plan from them, you are prompted to do so when you leave the patient chart. If you select Yes, you are transferred to the Treatment Plan Pick List, where you can select an existing plan to add the procedures to, or create a new plan.
