Choosing a Security Method
There are two methods for using security:
-
One user per computer With this method, PracticeWorks does not ask for authorization unless a user attempts to perform an event that requires a higher security access level. However, if another user performs functions on this computer, the function can be logged incorrectly into the audit log.
-
Multiple users per computer If multiple staff members use the same computer, the first person to open PracticeWorks in the morning should click Cancel when prompted to log in. This tells the system you are using the Multiple-User method with the Unknown User. Anytime someone attempts to perform an event with a security level greater than 0, the user must supply initials and a password to receive authorization.
The multi-user method enables a number of people to use any available computer. However, PracticeWorks prompts the user to type initials and password each time a user wants to perform an event that requires a security level greater than 0.
You can determine which method is being used by the way in which you start PracticeWorks:
-
If you enter your initials and password and click OK, you are using the One User per Computer method.
-
If you do not enter your initials and password at the Log In window and click OK, you are logging in as an Unknown User and you are using the Multiple Users per Computer method.
