Using ICD-10 Codes

ICD-10 codes are a medical classification list set by the World Health Organization. These codes are published as the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.

To use ICD-10 codes, select either the ADA 2012 form or a later form in the Insurance Form Type section of the Insurance Claim Options window. For more information, see Setting Up Insurance Claim Options.

To enter ICD-10 codes on an insurance claim:

  1. In the patient chart or from one of the Financial Functions windows, click the Claims button. The Claims window is displayed.

  2. Click Add New. If there is more than one responsible party for this patient, the Policy Holders window is displayed.

  3. Select the responsible party who is the policy holder for the claim being entered and click OK.

If the responsible party has more than one carrier, the Insurance Plans window is displayed.

Select the carrier you want to make a claim against and click OK. The Add New Claim window is displayed.

OR

If there is a single policy holder and only one carrier, the Add New Claim window is displayed.

  1. Select the type of claim you want to create and click OK. The Adding Claim Form window is displayed.

  2. Select field 34 and type AB as the diagnosis list qualifier.

  3. Select field 34a and type the ICD-10 code. Tab to enter additional ICD-10 codes.

  4. Verify that all the information is correct, and click OK.
