Working with Image Categories

Categories help you manage and locate images. Several types of images can be associated with a patient, such as a patient photo, driver's license, consent form, insurance EOB, radiographs, and intraoral images. Image categories can be designated as clinical or non-clinical, to determine where they are stored and accessed on the Patient Workspace.

System-defined categories are followed by the letter S. These cannot be edited or deleted, but they can be de-activated.

Clinical image categories, such as "Panoramic x-rays," are followed by the letter C. These images are attached to the EMR tab of the Patient Workspace.

Non-clinical images, such as a driver's license or insurance card, are stored on the Workspace tab.

To add image categories:

  1. Select Tables > Patients > Image Categories. The Image Category Search window is displayed.

  2. Click New. The Image Category Entry window is displayed.

  3. In the Description field, type an image category description.

  4. In the Default Item Type field, select Image or Document.

  5. Select Category defines clinical images only if this type of image should be associated with the EMR, or clinical portion of the patient's record.

  6. Adjust the Print Options as needed.

  7. Click Ok.
