Docking Patients

You can temporarily dock and restore patient records while performing other tasks or working with another patient record. The Docked Patients window provides one-click access to common actions for each docked patient, and can restore a patient record to its previous state. This enables you to have several patient records open at the same time.

Use the buttons to access a specific function for the docked patient without having to return to the patient window. You can also route the patient to another user's dock.

Use the Patient Workspace Preferences window to define the action buttons for docked patients.

Routing Docked Patients to Other Users

You can send a docked patient to another user’s dock. For example, the front office administrator might send the patient from her dock to the back office user who verifies insurance, or to the doctor to process a post-surgery prescription request.

To send a docked patient to another user’s dock:

  1. From the Patient Workspace window, click Minimize Patient to Dock. The patient's name is displayed in the Docked Patients window.

  2. From the Docked Patient window, click Click to add a dock note.. The Dock Patient with Note window is displayed.

  3. Use the drop-down list to select the user to whom you are sending this record.

  4. Use the note field to enter instructions or a description of the required action.

  5. Click Ok.

  6. Click to view a dock note  When you receive a patient record and note from another user in your Docked Patients window, the patient is shaded dark gray until you open the workspace window for the patient.  The note icon is displayed with a box around it until you click the note icon to view the note.

Automatic Notifications

You can receive automatic notifications when another user has sent a patient to your Docked Patients window. When enabled, the Patient Dock Notifier Service becomes active in your system tray, and displays a message when there is a new patient in your dock.

Patient Dock Notifier  You can double-click the icon in your system tray to display the Patient Dock Notifier window. From here, you can view details, stop the service, or minimize the window.
