Running the New Area Code Boundaries Utility
Run this utility to update area codes if the phone company changes your
regional area code. Contact the phone company to acquire a list of exchanges
affected by the new area code.
To update your area code boundaries:
Instruct all users to exit the software.
Select Start
> All Programs > SoftDent Software > SoftDent Utilities.
The SoftDent Login window is displayed.
Type your user name and password
and click OK. The SoftDent Utilities window
is displayed.
Select Maintenance
> New Area Code Boundaries. The New Area Code Boundaries
window is displayed.
Type the current and new area codes
in the appropriate fields.
To add 1 as a prefix for the area
code, select Add "1" prefix
to this new area code.
If the practice will use the new
area code, select Will the practice
be using the new area code.
Type the name of the affected exchanges
and select the appropriate option to indicate which numbers are represented
in the Exchange Information section.
Click Apply.
A message asks you whether to apply the changes.
Click Yes.
A message informs you of your selections.
Click Yes.
A message informs you of the number of phone numbers that were updated.
Click OK.
The New Area Code Boundaries window is displayed.
Click Close.
Restart the software.
If your practice
remains under the old area code and your exchange file lists numbers affected
by the new area code:Exchanges
in the file receive a new area code and a "1" prefix for long
distance (only if specified).
If your practice remains under the old
area code and your exchange file represents numbers not affected by the
new area code:All exchanges
in the file stay the same, and all exchanges not in the file receive the
new area code and a "1" prefix for long distance (only if specified).
If your practice uses the new area code
and your exchange file represents numbers changing to the new area code:All exchanges
in the file have their area code field removed because they will be local
to the practice. All exchanges not in the file are assigned the old area
code and receive a "1" prefix for long distance (only if specified).
If your practice uses the new area code
and your exchange list represents numbers not affected by the new area
code:All exchanges
in the file receive the old area code and become long distance and receive
a "1" prefix (only if specified). All exchanges not found in
the file remain local and have the area code field removed.
Any
phone number with an area code different from the current or new area
code will not be changed:All exchanges
in the file receive the old area code and become long distance and receive
a "1" prefix (only if specified). All exchanges not found in
the file remain local and have the area code field removed.
