Prescribing a Drug

To prescribe a drug:

  1. Select an option:

  2. In the Patient List window:In the Patient List window:Select the patient and select Clinical Management > Prescription History from the Options section of the Express bar or Options menu.

  3. In the Patient window:In the Patient window:Select Clinical Management > Prescription History from the Options menu.

  4. In the Account List window:In the Account List window:Select the patient and select Patients from the Options section of the Express bar or Options menu. The patients associated with the account are displayed in the Patient List window. Select Clinical Management > Prescription History from the Options section of the Express bar or Options menu.

  5. In the Account window:In the Account window:Select Patients from the Options section of the Express bar or Options menu. The patients associated with the account are displayed in the Patient List window. Select Clinical Management > Prescription History from the Options section of the Express bar or Options menu.

  6. In the patient chart:In the patient chart:Hover over the Prescriptions section of the patient banner, and click the link.

The patient prescriptions are displayed in the Prescriptions for List window.

  1. Click Prescribe Drug on the toolbar. The Add A Prescription window is displayed.

  2. Select the drug from the Drug ID drop-down list.

  3. If the drug you are prescribing is not displayed in the Drug List window, see Adding Prescription Drugs.

  1. Select the provider from the Doctor ID drop-down list.

  2. The patient’s preferred doctor is the default value for the Doctor ID drop-down list.

  1. Click OK.

  2. To modify the prescription, dispense, or refill information, type the information in the appropriate fields.

  3. You cannot edit the Med Alerts field in this window. Medical alert information must be entered in the Medical History window.

  1. Click OK. The Prescription Options window is displayed.

  3. To use the auto dialer to call the preferred pharmacy:To use the auto dialer to call the preferred pharmacy:Select Call Preferred Pharmacy and click OK. The Pharmacy Phone Numbers window is displayed. Click Dial.

  4. To call another pharmacy:To call another pharmacy:Select Choose another Pharmacy and click OK. The Pharmacy List window is displayed. Double-click the pharmacy. The Pharmacy Phone Numbers window is displayed. Click Dial.

  5. To print the prescription:To print the prescription:Select Print Prescription and click OK. The Output Options window is displayed. Select the output option and click OK.
