Getting Started > Searching for Records > Using Find to Search for a Record
To change the search method and sort order for search results, select the option from the Sort By section of the list window. The list is automatically re-sorted in the new order. Changing the sort order does not change the mode.
In any list window, you can search by identification number rather than by name without changing the sort order.
Type the number in the Find field and press:
Tab
Enter
Esc
The search results are sorted by name, and the matching record is highlighted.
When searching by identification number or other numeric values, the search does not begin until you press:
Tab
Enter
Esc
If the list is sorted by name and you search for a name containing an alpha-numeric, the search automatically begins when you type the first non-numeric character.
See Record Search Methods for a list of search methods for each record type.
