Diagnosis Codes

Diagnosis (Dx) codes are required to submit medical insurance claims.

The official International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code set is included in the WinOMS software.

Managing Diagnosis Categories

Diagnosis codes must be assigned to a category. ICD-10 codes default to the ICD-10 category, but you can change the category of a code to suit the needs of your practice. When making changes, edit the categories first, and then the codes.

To add or edit a diagnosis category:

  1. Select Tables > Diagnosis > Categories. The Diagnosis Category Search window is displayed.

  2. Click New, or select a category and click Edit. The Diagnosis Category Entry window is displayed.

  3. Add or edit the Description field.

  4. The Category ID is automatically assigned by WinOMS.

Managing Diagnosis Codes

To add or edit a diagnosis code:

  1. Select Tables > Diagnosis > Codes. The Diagnosis Code Search window is displayed. You can filter the search by Version, Category, or Frequently Used. You can search for inactive codes by de-selecting Active Codes Only.

  2. Click New, or select a code and click Edit. The Diagnosis Code Data Entry window is displayed.

  3. The Version field displays the version for the selected diagnosis code, and can only be changed when entering a new code.

  1. For a new code, type a unique diagnosis code and short description.

  2. You cannot edit the code number of an existing diagnosis code, but you can edit the description.

  1. Use the Alternate Posting Code field to note another number by which this code is posted in your system.

  2. Use the Long Description field to enter how this diagnosis is displayed in letters.

  3. Select a Category for this code.

  4. Select Frequently Used if you want this code to display when filtering the search for frequently used codes.

  5. De-select Active if you want to mark this code as Inactive.

  6. Click Ok.

Printing the Diagnosis Code List

To print the Diagnosis Code list:

  1. Select Tables > Diagnosis > Categories. The Diagnosis Category Search window is displayed.

  2. Click Print.
