National Provider Identifier (NPI) Support

The WinOMS software includes fields to enter National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers for both paper and electronic claims. Both Type 1 for individual providers and Type 2 for groups of providers are supported.

• The National Provider Identifier ID is only supported when using the new CMS 1500 and ADA 2006 claim forms.

The NPI source is based on the tax identification number (TIN) source selected on the Insurance tab of the Practice Data Entry window. For example, if Practice is selected, the Practice NPI is used as the billing NPI. The individual provider NPI is always used as the rendering NPI.

Enter the NPI number in the appropriate location:

• If an NPI number is assigned to your practice, select Tables > Practice > Practice Preferences > Insurance tab. In the Insurance Form Options section, enter the number in the NPI ID field.

• If an NPI number is assigned to your office, select Tables > Practice > Offices. Select the office to open the Office Data Entry window and select the Office Data tab. In the Other section, enter the number in the NPI ID field.

• If an NPI number is assigned to a provider, select Tables > Practice > Providers/Staff Members. Select the staff member to open the Provider/Staff Data Entry window and select the Provider Info tab. In the Identification Numbers section, enter the number in the NPI field.
