If a patient is covered by both dental and medical insurance, you can submit procedures to both insurance carriers when posting ADA codes that are linked to CPT medical codes. When you submit the claim, either a dental or a medical claim is created and submitted in the order you specify.
To submit a claim that contains a linked CPT code:
In the patient Transactions List window, click Add to add a transaction that contains a linked CPT code to the patient transaction log.
To post transactions automatically during the check out process from the InOffice or Single Day View windows, see Automatically Posting Appointment Procedures.
Select the code from the Code drop-down list and click OK.
Select an option:
Click OK.
Click Close. The patient Transactions List window is displayed.
Select Submit Insurance from the Options section of the Express bar or Options menu. The Transactions Submission window is displayed.
To submit a claim for transactions, select the appropriate dates and click OK. A message that informs you that a linked claim is being processed is displayed.
Click OK. The Order of Submission For Linked Claims window is displayed.
When you post the insurance payment or denial to the dental claim, a message prompts you to submit the claim to medical insurance, if the claim was not paid in full.
To submit the primary medical claim first, type C in the Insurance Carrier #1 field. If the patient also has dental insurance, type A in the Insurance Carrier #2 field.
Click OK. The Claim window is displayed.
Type the appropriate information and click OK.
