Submitting and Tracking Claims > Submitting Dental Claims
You might encounter a situation where a patient has an existing claim for which a secondary claim can be submitted, but no secondary insurance was applied to the patient before the initial claim was sent. SoftDent enables you to submit insurance claims to both primary and secondary insurance companies.
Before you can submit a claim to a secondary insurance company, the primary claim must first be paid and completed.
To submit a claim for a patient who has already been assigned secondary insurance:
Enter the insurance check payment for the patient.
Attach the insurance payment to the appropriate primary claim.
Submit secondary insurance.
To assign secondary insurance for a patient and submit an outstanding claim:
Select List > Patient. The Patient List window is displayed.
Double-click on the patient having secondary insurance coverage. The Patient window is displayed.
Click the Insur. tab.
Click the Secondary dental insurance drop-down menu.
Select the name of the guarantor under which secondary insurance is carried.
Ensure that the patient's relationship to guarantor 1 and 2 are selected.
Click OK to save the changes.
Click Transactions. The Transactions window is displayed.
Click Outstanding Ins.
Select the claim that needs to submitted to the secondary insurance.
Click View Claim.
Click Cancel Claim.
Click Yes to cancel the claim.
Click Yes to delete the claim.
Click Close in the Outstanding Insurance window.
Click Submit Insurance. This will resubmit the primary insurance.
If you have received the final insurance payment, post that payment, or if already posted, post a $0.00 payment and associate it with the new claim number.
When the Submit Secondary Insurance Form? prompt displays, click Yes.
