Running the Rebuild SoftDent Image Database Utility

Run this utility to update image locations. When you move images to a new location or create a new image directory on your network, you should run this utility. Also, if you upgrade from an earlier version, run this utility if some of your existing images were missed during the conversion process.

To update image locations:

  1. Instruct all users to exit the software.

  2. Select Start > All Programs > SoftDent Software > SoftDent Utilities. The SoftDent Login window is displayed.

  3. Type your user name and password and click OK. The SoftDent Utilities window is displayed.

  4. Select Maintenance > Rebuild SoftDent Image Database. The Rebuild Image Database Setup window is displayed.

  5. Select an option:

  6. To locate all your image directories:To locate all your image directories:Click Scan Network. You can have more than one image directory, but each one must be named SDIMAGES and must be on a shared drive. A message informs you that the process is complete. Select the location checkboxes to include in the image database, and click OK (Rebuild).

  7. To add a specific image directory to the database:To add a specific image directory to the database:Click Browse. The Browse For Folder window is displayed. Scroll to the bottom and open the Network Neighborhood directory before navigating to the image location. Select the image directory, and click OK.

    To add multiple locations, repeat the process. Select the location checkboxes to include in the image database, and click OK (Rebuild).

After the images are added to the directory, the SoftDent utilities window is displayed.

  1. Click OK.

  2. When the technical support representative tells you to, restart the software.
