Running the Find Largest ID Utility

Run this utility to determine the largest identification number in a data file. Running this utility ensures that the next entry made into the file has a unique identification number. If necessary, the system file is reset to ensure that the next identification number used is one greater than the largest existing identification number. When the account file is reset, the next identification number is 100 greater than the largest account identification number.

Run this utility if an error message instructs you to run the FIND LARGEST IDs utility or when instructed to by a technical support representative.

To find the largest identification number used for files:

  1. Instruct all users to exit the software.

  2. Select Start > All Programs > SoftDent Software > SoftDent Utilities. The SoftDent Login window is displayed.

  3. Type your user name and password and click OK. The SoftDent Utilities window is displayed.

  4. Select File > Find Largest IDs or select Find Largest Id. The Find Largest ID window is displayed.

  1. Click OK. A message asks you to run the utility.

  2. Click OK.

  3. Restart the software.
