Running the Contact Compression Utility

Run this utility to free disk space by compressing and clearing contact notes that are no longer needed.

To compress contact notes:

1. Instruct all users to exit the software.

2. Select Start > All Programs > SoftDent Software > SoftDent Utilities. The SoftDent Login window is displayed.

3. Type your user name and password and click OK. The SoftDent Utilities window is displayed.

4. Select Maintenance > Contact Compression. The Contact Compression window is displayed.

5. Type the number of days before which notes are compressed in the Compress contacts older than field. Notes created before the date are compressed.

6. To save the compressed notes to a location other than the contact.txt file, type the file name in the appropriate field.

7. Click OK. A message asks you whether to start the compression process.

8. Click Yes. A message informs you that the compression is complete.

9. Click OK.

10. Restart the software.
