Handling Transactions and Codes
You can assign as many as six procedure codes to a single code number. This single code is an explosion code. Codes 100000.00 through 100999.89 are reserved for explosion codes.
You cannot assign a hygienist to the appointment unless Hygiene Code is selected.
To create an explosion code:
Select List > ADA Codes. The ADA/CPT/Transaction Code List window is displayed.
Press Enter and click Add. The ADA/CPT/Transaction Code window is displayed.
Type the new code number in the Code field. The code type is displayed beneath the field. See Understanding Transaction and Procedure Code Ranges for a complete list of codes.
To schedule or post transactions using an office code, type an easy-to-remember group of letters and numbers in the Office Code field.
Type a description, alternate description, and alternate insurance information.
If the explosion code includes procedures a hygienist must perform, select Hygiene Code.
Click the Scheduler/Fees tab.
When adding an explosion code, only the Time Units, Use Scheduler Template, and Code fields are enabled.
To use the scheduler template, select Use Scheduler Template. Providers are automatically assigned to the code, and a warning is displayed if there are scheduling conflicts.
Type the number of time units required for the coded procedure in the Time Units field, and type the number of real time minutes it takes to complete the coded procedure in the RTU minutes field.
Select the codes of the explosion code from the Code drop-down lists. When you post an explosion code, these codes are posted separately. If you set up color scheduling by procedure, each code description is displayed in the assigned scheduling color.
Click OK.
