Using a Backup Checklist

It is your responsibility to keep your data backups accurate, current, and protected. Many backup systems provide limited protection, unless they are part of a comprehensive backup program. To maintain effective protection for your records, you must facilitate an effective backup strategy that actively involves staff participation in your daily operation.

A comprehensive backup checklist includes the following:

Testing your backup system.
Establishing a backup routine.
Determining what files need to be backed up.
Choosing the right backup media for your practice.
Providing safe storage for your backup media.
Maintaining backup devices and replacing worn backup media.
Understanding the restore process.
